Behind the Care: Six Colleagues Who Carried Mother & Child Hospital Through a Tough Year

This Customer Service Week, Mother & Child Hospital celebrates six staff members whose dedication made a tough year bearable for our patients.

Ask patients what they remember about a hospital stay, and they rarely mention the equipment. They remember the people: the voice that calmed them, the hand that was gentle, the person who showed up when it mattered.

This Customer Service Week, we’re saying thank you to six of those people at Mother & Child Hospital. They work in very different departments. But this year, when everything felt harder, they all showed up and gave their best.

Meet Dr. Korir, Josyline, Trizer, John, Faith and Sarah.

Dr. Korir: Medical Superintendent

Some people are smart. Some people are calm. Dr. Korir is both, and it shows in how our hospital runs.

As Medical Superintendent, Dr. Korir guides our clinical teams. But what colleagues notice first is his temperament. His calm demeanor settles patients who walk in worried, and it keeps his colleagues and the people who report to him relaxed and clear-headed, even on difficult days. When the person leading the room stays composed, everyone else can focus on doing their job well.

In a tough year, that steadiness mattered more than ever. Dr. Korir, thank you for your intelligence, your composure and the example you set.

Josyline Kawira: Nurse In-charge, Inpatient Department

If you want to understand Josyline Kawira, start with her phone.

As Nurse In-charge of the Inpatient Department, Josyline is determined, hardworking and relentless about the quality of patient care. She knows how to put patients at ease, and she’s reachable when it counts, taking calls in the middle of the night because a patient’s care can’t wait for morning.

That kind of commitment can’t be taught or scheduled. It comes from someone who simply refuses to let quality slip. Josyline, thank you for holding our inpatient ward to the highest standard.

Trizer Mutende: Head of Laboratory

Nobody looks forward to having blood drawn. Trizer Mutende makes it easier.

As head of our Laboratory Department, Trizer is known for her soft touch with phlebotomy. Patients feel calm in her hands, and she’s easy to talk to, which counts for a lot when someone is nervous about a test. She’s also a good leader. Her team knows she’s reliable, and she doesn’t flake on them.

The lab rarely gets the spotlight, but nearly every diagnosis depends on it. Trizer, thank you for doing that work with such care and consistency.

John Mulandi: In-charge, Radiology

Picture it: it’s the middle of the night, and a parent has walked in worried about their baby. It may turn out to be nothing, but they can’t rest until someone checks.

John Mulandi will come in for that parent.

As In-charge of Radiology, John treats even the smallest worry with the utmost concern and works with energy and focus to get answers. For anxious parents, that kind of response can mean the difference between a sleepless night and peace of mind.

John, thank you for taking every concern seriously.

Faith: Nurse Assistant

Faith’s job title is Nurse Assistant. Spend a day watching her work, and you’d think she was a nurse.

She’s quiet but fierce. She doesn’t announce her commitment. She shows it, through her professionalism, her care and the way she approaches every task. Patients feel looked after, and colleagues know they can count on her.

Hospitals depend on people like Faith, who do the work thoroughly and don’t ask for attention. Faith, thank you. We see you.

Sarah Ndinda: Procurement Manager

Sarah Ndinda is the life of the party. Her hearty laughter carries down the corridor, and it’s the first thing most people notice about her.

What they don’t always notice is the work. Sarah is in at 8am and often there until 10pm, working behind the scenes to make sure everything on the procurement side is in order. Supplies, equipment and the orders that keep our clinical teams running all go through her. She does it under intense pressure, and she handles it like a champion.

So when you hear that laugh, remember what’s behind it. Sarah, thank you for keeping us stocked, supported and smiling.

Dr. Korir, Josyline, Trizer, John, Faith and Sarah are different people with different jobs. But they share a commitment that doesn’t clock out at 5pm: to the patient in front of them, and to the colleague next to them.

This year wasn’t easy, and none of them made a fuss about it. They just did the work, and they did it well.

To them, and to every member of the Mother & Child Hospital family: asante sana. We’re proud to work alongside you.
